At Namumera Primary School, Team Bugonyoka organized a pivotal stakeholders meeting focused on school retention and community sensitization. Attendees included Social Lab teams from Bulongo and Nawampiti subcounties, key figures such as Roland Katende, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Luuka District; Isaac Wabodha, the Community Development Officer (CDO); local leaders, school heads, and parents. The meeting was highlighted by an inspiring address from Dr. Ronald Luwangula, the Social Labs students’ supervisor.
During the meeting, Mr. Katende observed that some students were not dressed in school uniforms, despite their parents’ attendance. Taking prompt action, he chose one student as an example and personally funded her school uniform and essential items like knickers, soap, stockings, and Vaseline. Mr. Katende also committed to monitoring the girl’s family and her academic progress.
Dr. Luwangula emphasized the importance of active involvement from parents and the wider community to ensure that no school-age child is left out of the education system. This meeting led to the formation of a community enforcement committee dedicated to this cause.
The role of the Resident District Commissioner, who represents the President at the district level, underscored the significance of this initiative. The success of the students in orchestrating this event showcases the profound impact of the Social Labs methodology.
